ABUJA, NIGERIA April 19, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed food packages that provided 85,200 meals to families in Nigeria in time for the Ramadan season.

Food packages that included items such as rice, pasta, beans, canned goods, tea, and cooking oil were delivered to families in the Abuja region.

According to Elora Bashir, program operations manager at Baitulmaal, over 600 of these meals were provided during a community iftar where families came together to break their fast with Baitulmaal.

“Families receiving their food packages or iftars left with a sense of security for the month,” Bashir said. “The essence of Ramadan is found in the joy of these shared meals.

According to UNICEF, nearly 25 million Nigerians are at risk of facing food insecurity – the majority of them children. Continued conflict, climate change, inflation, and rising food prices are key drivers of this alarming trend.

In addition to this distrubution in Nigeria, Baitulmaal has previously provided fresh meat for Udhiyah and Ramadan packages. If you would like to learn more about or contribute to these programs at Baitulmaal, please visit their website at Baitulmaal.org.
