Displaced, impoverished yet hopeful
In Bangladesh, the Myanmar military conduct widespread and violent ethnic cleansing, forcing many Rohingya people, a predominantly Muslim ethnic group, to flee.
To date, the military has destroyed more than 350 villages, leaving many dead from house-by-house killings, with women and girls subjected to horrific sexual violence and abuse.
Of these refugees, nearly half are children.
In Pakistan, waist-deep, record-level flooding has destroyed homes, subjecting entire communities to lack of shelter, clean water and access to education.
In the country’s rural villages, poverty rates are significantly higher, forcing villages to survive without running water, basic hygiene care or education.
