GAZA, PALESTINE October 20, 2026 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently opened the Baitulmaal Hope Medical Center in Khan Younis to expand access to essential and emergency healthcare services for internally displaced and vulnerable families in Gaza.
The fully equipped medical center provides daily primary and emergency care, maternal health services, chronic disease management, and mental health and psychosocial support. An on-site pharmacy provides essential medicines, while referral arrangements with nearby hospitals help patients with critical conditions access additional care.
According to Ahmed Sherif, director of international programs at Baitulmaal, this medical center is expected to reach approximately 3,300 people, primarily internally displaced persons (IDPs), children under 12, pregnant and lactating women, older adults, people living with chronic diseases, injured and trauma-affected individuals, and those requiring mental health and psychosocial support.
For people who previously faced challenges traveling to medical facilities, the center offers a more accessible option.
“Having this medical center nearby has saved us so much time and effort. Previously, we had to travel to medical facilities near the border, which was difficult and exhausting. Finding affordable transportation was a major challenge, and between transportation costs and rent, we couldn’t afford to make the trip often,” said a beneficiary in Khan Younis.
Another mother described the support she received when she brought her daughter for treatment.
“We are very grateful for this medical center. I brought my daughter here for treatment, and we were welcomed and cared for in an organized, supportive environment. The medicines she needed for her treatment were also available,” said a mother who received care at the center.
To help sustain services beyond the initial three-month period, Baitulmaal will train local healthcare workers and volunteers in triage, infection prevention, and community health awareness.
In addition to medical support in Gaza, Baitulmaal has been on the ground providing food, shelter kits, fresh bread, clean water, psychosocial support, temporary housing, and other emergency aid. Baitulmaal has worked in Palestine for more than a decade providing food, clothing, seasonal giving, and emergency aid.
