WEST BANK, PALESTINE May 3, 2023 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed food packages that provided 223,728 meals to impoverished families in Gaza and the West Bank in time for the Ramadan fasting season.

Approximately 232 families in Gaza and 400 families in the West Bank received the food packages. Packages contained items such as flour, sugar, oil, rice, tea, dates, cheese and canned goods that will help feed a family during the holy month.

In addition to the food packages, Baitulmaal provided iftar meals to 2,000 worshippers at the Al-Aqsa compound during the final days of Ramadan.

Palestinians routinely face the threat of violence during the holy month. In Ramadan of 2021, more than 250 Palestians were killed, including 66 children. This year, another 33 Palestinians were killed during Ramadan.

The decades-long occupation of Palestine has been a source of suffering for nearly 5 million Palestinians that have been forced into extreme poverty and food insecurity. More than 2 million people live in the Gaza Strip, often called the world’s “largest open air prison.”

This Ramadan, Baitulmaal delivered food packages for more than 3.6 million meals worldwide. To learn more about or contribute to these efforts, visit Baitulmaal.org.
