GAZA, PALESTINE March 4, 2026 -- Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, has launched the Hope Bakery initiative in Mawasi Khan Younis during the holy month of Ramadan to provide daily bread to displaced and vulnerable families while creating local employment opportunities for community members.
The project is initially supporting approximately 300 families, with plans to expand to reach up to 1,500 families daily. The Hope Bakery is designed to produce up to 3,000 nutrious loaves of fresh bread per hour, ensuring families have a reliable daily staple amid ongoing humanitarian challenges.
According to Ahmed Sherif, senior manager of international programs at Baitulmaal, the Hope Bakery not only will provide daily bread, it will also create local jobs, restore daily routines, and strengthen community resilience during a time of profound hardship.
“The Hope Bakery is about more than food — it represents stability in a time of uncertainty,” said Sherif. “It offers families comfort, preserves dignity, and reminds our brothers and sisters that they are not alone during this unimaginable hardship.”
According to the latest World Food Programme (WFP) and Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) analysis, at least 1.6 million people — roughly 77 percent of Gaza’s population, are facing high levels of acute food insecurity amid ongoing conflict, severely limited access to supplies, and disrupted food systems.
In addition to providing fresh bread, Baitulmaal has been working in Palestine for more than a decade providing Ramadan food packages, distributing Iftar meals, clothing, education support, seasonal giving, life- saving aid and healthcare, in addition to operating 400 water tanks in Gaza.
