RAFAH, PALESTINE March 10, 2024 – Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed emergency humanitarian aid to over 112,000 displaced Palestinians in Gaza after the successful entry of Baitulmaal’s third aid convoy from Egypt.
Ten trucks crossed into Gaza from the Rafah border crossing carrying humanitarian aid such as 1,200 mattresses, 800 food packages, 800 blankets, 595 rolls of tarpaulin (221K sq m), 400 hygiene kits, 400 mats, and 400 tents.
According to Ahmed Sherif, senior manager of international programs at Baitulmaal, conditions in Gaza were assessed to determine the most urgent humanitarian aid needs before securing and mobilizing the necessary supplies.
“Over one million women, children, elderly, and injured Palestinians were forced to flee to South Gaza,” Sherif said. “Overcrowding in the region and delayed flow of aid caused limited access to necessities such as shelters and tents. Thankfully, we were able to source and deliver these supplies to thousands in need.”
According to UNRWA, more than 30,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have been killed by Israeli forces, more than 72,000 Palestinians injured, and more than 1 million residents internally displaced. Israel has also imposed a blockade on food, water, fuel and electricity from entering Gaza. According to the United Nations, this has caused about 16 percent of children under the age of two to suffer from acute malnutrition, and caused more than 2 million people to face the worst levels of food insecurity.
Baitulmaal’s first humanitarian aid convoy successfully entered Gaza with 14 trucks of aid, and the second humanitarian aid convoy entered Gaza with 10 trucks of aid. This will be the third aid convoy that has entered Gaza, with more aid convoys on the way.
In addition to the entry of humanitarian aid trucks into Gaza, Baitulmaal has also been on the ground in Gaza providing food, shelter kits, hygiene supplies, clean water, psychosocial support and other emergency aid since October 7. Baitulmaal has been working in Palestine for more than a decade providing food, clothing, education support, seasonal giving, emergency aid and healthcare in Palestine, in addition to operating 400 water tanks in Gaza. Having staff and resources on the ground has enabled Baitulmaal to quickly mobilize emergency aid from existing stock within Gaza to families in need.
Baitulmaal continues to provide aid during the current crisis and will deliver more aid into Gaza as the situation allows. If you would like to learn more about or contribute to Baitulmaal’s efforts in Palestine, please visit their website at Baitulmaal.org.
