But 1 in 4 people worldwide risk diseases like cholera and diarrhea that lead to severe illness, malnutrition – or worse – when they drink from polluted, contaminated water sources.
Nearly two-thirds of the world’s population struggles with water scarcity at some point during the year, according to the UN. That’s around 4 billion people who face challenges linked to water quality and access.
Sadly, unsafe water and hygiene practices are responsible for 700 child deaths every day, according to WHO and UNICEF. Deaths that are largely preventable.
That’s why it’s important for communities to have access to safe, clean water and sanitation facilities. Prioritizing water access can help maintain a community’s health, boost economic growth, improve school attendance -- and save lives.
