MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE May 27, 2026 -- Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat, providing 7,200 meals to families across Mozambique during the Islamic season of Udhiyah.
Approximately 2,750 families in Macia city, Maputo, received fresh meat from locally-sourced, humanely-slaughtered cows. According to Usama Rashed, head of West Africa program at Baitulmaal, most of the beneficiaries included orphans, the elderly, women and displaced people.
“For many of the families we met, providing meat for their children is simply beyond their means,” Rashed said. “Seeing parents leave with food that will feed their families and allow them to celebrate Dhul Hijjah with joy is especially meaningful for those facing hardship.”
According to the World Bank, nearly 60 percent of Mozambique's population lives in rural areas where poverty and food insecurity remain persistent challenges, making access to nutritious protein difficult for many vulnerable families.
