ABUJA, NIGERIA June 19, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 4,000 meals to impoverished families in Nigeria as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.
Approximately 800 families living in the Kano and Yobe States in Northern Regions region received fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered cows.
The beneficiaries included orphan families, people living with disabilities, and impoverished families, according to Ahmed Sherif, international offices manager at Baitulmaal.
“Feeding the hungry is one of the best acts during this Islamic season,” said Sherif. “Families tasted not only fresh meat, but the kindness and compassion of our donors.”
According to UNICEF, nearly 25 million people in Nigeria are at high risk of food insecurity, with 18 percent of the population living in severe poverty and 33 percent considered poor.
In addition to providing fresh meat for Udhiyah, Baitulmaal has also provided Ramadan food packages in Nigeria. To learn more about or contribute to these efforts, visit Baitulmaal.org.
