AMMAN, JORDAN June 24, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 4,000 meals to impoverished families in Jordan as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 846 families living in Amman, Irbid, Jerash, Al Zarqaa, Madaba, and Al Mafraq received fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered sheep.

Beneficiaries included orphans, widows, and people with disabilities, according to Elora Bashir, program operations manager at Baitulmaal.

“Families were so grateful to receive fresh meat just in time for Eid ul-Adha,” Bashir said. “Meat is a luxury that many families in Jordan don’t have.”

According to the World Food Program, Jordan hosts over 760,000 refugees. Food security has been a key concern in Jordan due to the high levels of refugees.

In addition to providing fresh meat for Udhiyah, Baitulmaal has also distributed Ramadan food packages and provided back-to-school support for orphans. To learn more about or contribute to these efforts, visit Baitulmaal.org.
