KANO, NIGERIA May 29, 2026 -- Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat, providing 7,200 meals to families across Nigeria during the Islamic season of Udhiyah.
Approximately 600 families living in Kano and surrounding communities, including Nasarawa and Dakata received fresh meat from locally-sourced, humanely-slaughtered cows. According to Usama Rashed, head of West Africa programs at Baitulmaal, most of the beneficiaries included children, the elderly, women and displaced people.
To ensure no family was left behind, Baitulmaal also conducted a special distribution in a remote village where families facing extreme poverty had limited access to transportation and were unable to reach the main distribution sites.
“This distribution reflects the generosity of our donors and the dedication of our field teams. Together, we were able to reach hundreds of families in Kano State and ensure they could share in the blessing of fresh meat during this sacred season,” said Rashed.
According to the World Bank poverty assessments, in parts of northern Nigeria, a significant share of rural households live below the poverty line and face limited access to markets and basic services.
