DAKAR, SENEGAL June 30, 2026 -- Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed food packages that provided 6,000 meals to vulnerable families across Senegal during the Islamic season of Udhiyah.
Approximately 300 families received fresh meat from locally-sourced, humanely-slaughtered cows.
According to Usama Rashed, head of West programs at Baitulmaal, most of the beneficiaries included women, children, orphans, and the elderly.
“The true impact of Udhiyah is found in the moments shared around the table,” said Mazen Mokhtari, CEO of Baitulmaal. “It is a mother who can prepare a special meal for her children, an elderly neighbor who feels remembered, and a family that can celebrate Eid with dignity. We are honored that our donors make these moments possible.”
According to the United Nations Development Programme's 2024 Global Multidimensional Poverty Index, more than half of Senegal's population lives in multidimensional poverty, highlighting the ongoing need for humanitarian assistance
