🇦🇫 Ongoing Situation (July 2025)
-
Over 1.4 million Afghans have returned or been deported from Iran this year—many involuntarily.
-
Daily arrivals peaked at 30,000–50,000 in June–July at key border points like Islam Qala and Spin Boldak.
-
Most returnees arrive with no shelter, food, or possessions after years or generations living abroad.
-
Border provinces (Herat, Kandahar) are overwhelmed and lack capacity to absorb the influx.
-
Returnees are suffering from malnutrition, illness, heat exposure, and psychological trauma.
-
The Afghan economy and health system remain fragile, with over 22.9 million people in need of assistance.
-
Clean water access is an escalating crisis — with experts warning that Kabul could become the first modern city to completely run out of water.
