UDHIJAH YEMEN

GALKACAYO, SOMALIA March 29, 2026 -- Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed Ramadan food packages providing 300,000 meals to vulnerable families across Galkacayo City and Mudug Region, as part of the holy month of Ramadan.

Approximately 1,000 families received food packages containing essential staples, including lentils, rice, potato, onion, dates, flour, and vegetable oil. Most beneficiaries were displaced people, orphans, women, and the elderly, according to Ahmed Sherif, senior manager of international programs at Baitulmaal.

“In the blessed month of Ramadan, a single meal can feel like mercy,” said Ahmed Sherif. “For families who have lost so much, being able to sit together and break their fast with dignity brings a quiet sense of comfort and hope, it’s a reminder that they are seen, cared for, and not alone.”

According to the United Nations, over 2.9 million people in Somalia face high levels of food insecurity, with displaced populations, women, children, and the elderly among the most affected.

All staples were sourced from local markets in Galkayo, supporting local businesses and contributing to the local economy while enabling timely delivery to vulnerable households.

In addition to distributing Ramadan food packages, Baitulmaal has also provided fresh meat for Udhiyah in Somalia. To learn more about or contribute to these efforts, visit Baitulmaal.org.
