GALKAYO, SOMALIA May 16, 2023 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed food packages that provided 177,000 meals to families in Somalia in time for the Ramadan season.

The charity delivered food packages to 500 families with orphans and to the Baitulmaal-supported Harhar orphanage in the Galkayo, Mudug Region. The packages included items such as rice, flour, sugar, beans, milk powder, dates and cooking oil.

Somalia is among the hardest-hit countries in East Africa suffering from a prolonged drought. Many families are internally displaced and struggling with food insecurity and poverty.

Baitulmaal delivered more than 3.6 million meals to those in need around the world this Ramadan. The charity has also been on the ground in Somalia helping with drought relief efforts and providing food assistance to families in need.
