SANAA, YEMEN May 12, 2022 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed 1,000 food packages that provided 402,000 Ramadan meals to impoverished families in Yemen.ย

The food packages were distributed in Taiz and Marib to families suffering from food insecurity amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen. Many of the families have been unable to procure basic goods like rice, sugar, and oil due to soaring prices and food shortages in the region. The food packages contained these items in addition to canned goods and other non-perishable foods to sustain families through the month of Ramadan, according to Baitulmaal program director Elizabeth Sohail.

โ€œItโ€™s hard enough for anyone to find many of these items in Yemen, let alone families with no way to afford them,โ€ Sohail said. โ€œThanks to our generous donors, we were able to come through for these families just in time for Ramadan.โ€

Baitulmaal delivered approximately 4 million meals to those in need around the world this past Ramadan. The charity also provides food, water, healthcare and other humanitarian aid to people in Yemen.
