Famine and Drought
Between 2010 and 2011, Somalia suffered what is said to be the worst famine in more than 60 years.
The crisis, which ravaged the East Africa region, killed thousands and threatened many more with food insecurity.
Although Somalia experienced steady improvement in the years following, a severe drought in 2016 resulted in loss of livestock, agriculture and clean water, plunging communities back into a state of food insecurity and need.
Now, due to widespread political unrest, harsh weather conditions brought on by global warming, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic, Somalia is in greater need of food assistance than ever before.
