KABUL, AFGHANISTAN March 15, 2025 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed food packages providing more than 200,000 meals to impoverished families in Afghanistan during Ramadan.

More than 700 families in Logar and Samangan provinces received food packages containing red beans, rice, sugar, salt, flour and cooking oil. Additionally, 2,250 hot meals were served during a community iftar, where families gathered to break their fast in Kabul, Kunduz, and Nangarhar.

According to Elora Bashir, senior manager of program operations at Baitulmaal, most of the beneficiaries were orphan families, women, disabled people and the elderly.

“We are immensely grateful to our donors, and this gratitude is deeply felt by the people of Afghanistan who benefit from your generosity,” Bashir said. “We consider ourselves blessed to be able to directly improve the lives of struggling Afghan brothers and sisters.”

According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), approximately 14.8 million people in Afghanistan were  projected to face high levels of acute food insecurity between 2024 and 2025.

In addition to food assistance in Ramadan, Baitulmaal has also provided fresh meat for Udhiyah, and delivered emergency aid to earthquake survivors in Afghanistan. To learn more about or contribute to these efforts, visit Baitulmaal.org.
