MEXICO CITY, MEXICO June 19, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 285 meals to vulnerable families across Mexico as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

The meat was sourced locally from humanely-slaughtered cows and distributed to approximately 285 families in Mexico City, Toluca, and Puebla. According to Elizabeth Sohail, senior manager of domestic programs at Baitulmaal, most of the beneficiaries included orphan families, women, single mothers, and people with disabilities.

“What may seem like a simple donation is truly life-changing for families who have so little,” said Sohail. “The meat we provided gave our sisters and brothers the ability to celebrate Eid with dignity and hope.”

According to a 2023 national survey by Mexico’s National Institute of Public Health, nearly 1 in 3 Mexican households experiences some level of food insecurity.

In addition to providing fresh meat for Udhiyah, Baitulmaal has also provided food packages to families in need during Ramadan season in Mexico. If you would like to learn more about or contribute to these programs at Baitulmaal, please visit their website at Baitulmaal.org.
