DODOMA, TANZANIA June 10, 2025 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat, providing 11,880 meals to impoverished families across Tanzania during Udhiyah.

Approximately 2,376  families received fresh meat from locally-sourced, humanely-slaughtered cows.

According to Ahmed Sherif, senior manager of international programs at Baitulmaal, most of the beneficiaries included the elderly, people with disabilities, and children.

“An elderly woman held her hands together and whispered her thanks,”said Sherif. “She hadn’t had a proper meal in days, and today she felt cared for and remembered.”

According to the World Bank, nearly 26 percent of Tanzania’s population lives below the national poverty line, highlighting the ongoing challenges many families face in accessing sufficient food and nutrition.
