ABIDJAN, IVORY COAST March 2, 2026 -- Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed Ramadan food packages providing 50,571 meals to underserved families in Abidjan in the community of Abobo as part of the Islamic season of Ramadan.
Food packages containing essential food such as rice, salt, pasta sugar, canned goods, and cooking oil were provided to 200 families. Most of the beneficiaries, included the elderly, widows and people with disabilities.
Additionally, 1,000 hot meals were distributed during a community iftar, where families gathered to break their fast, according to Ahmed Sherif, senior manager of international programs at Baitulmaal.
“When you see families sitting together, sharing a warm meal at iftar, you can truly feel the deep sense of relief and gratitude in the air,” said Ahmed Sherif. “These are the moments that restore hope and remind people they are not alone.”
According to the World Bank, nearly 39 percent of the population in Ivory Coast lives below the national poverty line, highlighting the ongoing need for food assistance among vulnerable communities.
In addition to providing Ramadan food packages and hot iftar meals in Ivory Coast, Baitulmaal has also distributed fresh meat for Udhiyah. To learn more about or contribute to these efforts, visit Baitulmaal.org
