LOMÉ, TOGO June 20, 2025 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat that provided 2,000 meals to families across Togo during Udhiyah.

Approximately 400 families living in Lomé and Sakodé received fresh meat from locally-sourced, humanely-slaughtered cows. According to Ahmed Sherif, senior manager of international programs at Baitulmaal, most of the beneficiaries included widows, orphans, the elderly, and displaced people.

“You could feel the weight lift, even just for a day,” Sherif said. “That’s what Eid is about,  joy, community, and compassion, and we’re humbled to be part of that.”

According to the World Bank, nearly 45 percent of Togo’s population lives in poverty, making food insecurity a persistent challenge.

In addition to providing fresh meat for Udhiyah, Baitulmaal, has also provided  Ramadan food packages, in Togo. To learn more about or contribute to these efforts, visit Baitulmaal.org.
