BAGHDAD, IRAQ May 29, 2023 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed Ramadan food packages that provided approximately 151,000 meals for Iraqis living in Al-Anbar and Baghdad countryside.
Approximately 375 families received a month’s worth of items such as rice, sugar, lentils, salt, tomato paste, flour, dates, and cooking oil. These beneficiaries were women-headed households, elderly, disabled people, and homeless people, according to Elizabeth Sohail, program development manager at Baitulmaal.
“Iraqis have gone through decades of hardship and displacement,” Sohail said. “With the blessings of Ramadan comes ease and tranquility, and with these food packages, families will be able to feel exactly that.”
According to the UN Refugee Agency, nearly 3 million Iraqis are in need of humanitarian assistance and protection, including 1 million people who are in acute need of assistance.
