In 2020, UNICEF warned that approximately one in five children under the age of five in Yemen are experiencing acute malnourishment.
Malnutrition, diarrhea and respiratory tract infections are a few of the main causes of these deaths, each of which are correlated to poor diets and inconsistencies in food.
- Send food packages
- Provide seasonal meat
- Help fight famine
- And other aid as needed
Near-Famine Conditions
Since 2014, the civil war in Yemen has made access to food incredibly difficult.
Since then, food insecurity has ravaged even more of the population as a result of political conflict, rising food prices, reduced employment opportunities, and plummeting wages.
Additionally, as war and famine separate the Yemeni people from reliable food, the country’s deeply rooted gender inequities ensure that hunger and malnutrition disproportionally impact women and children.
The country’s level of hunger was labeled as “alarming” by the Global Hunger Index in 2019 – but there is hope.
