SEREKUNDA , GAMBIA March 27, 2026 -- Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed Ramadan food packages that provided 27,429 meals to vulnerable families across Gambia during the holy month of Ramadan.
Approximately 100 families received food packages that contained essential staples such as chickpeas, lentils, sugar, rice, and milk. Most beneficiaries were orphans, women, and the elderly, according to Usama Rashed, head of West Africa programs at Baitulmaal.
"Ramadan reminds us that no one should face hunger alone. Through these food distributions, we stand alongside our Gambian brothers and sisters, helping ensure families can share meals with dignity and hope during this sacred month,” said Rashed.
The World Food Programme reports that 53 percent of Gambians live in poverty, with women, children, and rural communities disproportionately affected by food insecurity and economic hardship.
