MEXICO CITY, MEXICO June 10, 2025 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 900 meals to impoverished families in Mexico as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.
Approximately 180 families living in Mexico City, Toluca, Puebla and Tecámac, received fresh meat from locally-sourced, humanely-slaughtered sheep and cows to celebrate Eid with dignity.
According to Elizabeth Sohail, senior manager of domestic programs at Baitulmaal, most of the beneficiaries were single mothers, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
“Seeing the joy and relief on people’s faces when they receive fresh meat reminds us why this work matters”, Sohail said. “We are grateful to our donors that allow us to support people in need around the world.”
According to the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy (CONEVAL), over 46 percent of Mexico’s population lives in poverty, with limited access to adequate food and nutrition.
Baitulmaal has also been in Mexico delivering food assistance to families in need during Ramadan season. If you would like to learn more about or contribute to these programs at Baitulmaal, please visit their website at Baitulmaal.org.
