SANA’A, YEMEN November 22, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed school supplies to 359 vulnerable children in Yemen.
According to Elora Bashir, senior manager of program operations at Baitulmaal, most of the beneficiaries were members of underserved households, including orphans, widows, and people with disabilities living in Ma’arib, Sana’a, and Al-Hudaidah. Each education kit included backpacks, pencils, textbooks, uniforms, and other school supplies aimed at helping students return to school.
“It’s truly heartwarming to see how our donors’ support is helping orphans and vulnerable children return to school with dignity and hope,” Bashir said.
According to UNICEF, nearly 2.7 million school-age children in Yemen are currently out of school, poverty, and lack of basic educational resources, making such support crucial to keeping education within reach for affected communities.
In addition to distributing back-to-school supplies, Baitulmaal has also provided fresh meat for Udhiyah, distributed Ramadan food packages, delivered more than $4 million in medical aid, constructed solar-powered water wells, and provided winter aid and hygiene kits in Yemen.
