Position Summary
The Senior Manager of Communications will lead the Organizational Communications Team and oversee the development of core marketing collateral that enhances the nonprofit’s brand presence and supports fundraising initiatives. This role will manage a team of content creators—including a Content Specialist, Graphic Designer, and Video Editor—to produce high-quality brochures, annual reports, donor communications, and event promotional materials.
The ideal candidate is a strategic communicator with strong project management skills, a deep understanding of nonprofit storytelling, and experience producing donor-focused content.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications & Content Development
- Develop and execute an organizational communications strategy aligned with the nonprofit’s mission and fundraising goals.
- Oversee the creation of core marketing materials, including brochures, annual reports, impact stories, and case studies.
- Ensure that all content maintains a consistent brand voice and visual identity across digital and print channels.
- Work closely with the Campaigns Communications Team to align messaging with marketing campaigns.
Fundraising & Donor Communications
- Partner with the Fund Development Team to create compelling collateral for fundraising initiatives, including donor updates, event promotions, sponsorship packages, and fundraising appeals.
- Develop storytelling approaches that resonate with donors and stakeholders, highlighting the nonprofit’s impact.
- Collaborate with fundraising staff to refine messaging for major donor engagement and grant proposals.
Team Leadership & Project Management
- Lead and mentor a team of content producers, providing guidance, feedback, and professional development opportunities.
- Manage project workflows, ensuring timely production of high-quality content.
- Work cross-functionally with other departments to support organizational priorities.
- Oversee external vendors (writers, designers, printers) as needed.
Measurement & Reporting
- Track and evaluate the effectiveness of communications materials, making data-driven recommendations for improvements.
- Maintain content archives and asset libraries for efficient content reuse.
Qualifications & Experience
- 7+ years of experience in nonprofit communications, content strategy, or marketing.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, particularly for donor audiences.
- Experience managing a creative team, including writers, graphic designers, and video editors.
- Proficiency in project management tools and content production workflows.
- Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising and donor engagement strategies.
- Experience developing annual reports, brochures, and event materials.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in humanitarian aid or international development communications.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and email marketing platforms.
- Knowledge of AP Style and best practices for donor messaging.
