ISTANBUL, TURKEY April 25, 2022 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently delivered 750 food packages that provided 247,500 Ramadan meals to refugee families living in Turkey.
Approximately 5,174 Syrian refugees living in the border town of Urfa received the food packages in time for Ramadan. According to Elizabeth Sohail, program director at Baitulmaal, many of the recipients are low-income families with vulnerable members, and many of the children are orphans. Food packages included bulgur, lentils, tomato paste, pasta, oil, tea, sugar and dates.
“It’s important to be able to provide refugee families with food that they find comfort in despite being so far from home,” Sohail said. “Having a familiar meal in a special month like Ramadan is a blessing our donors made possible.”
Baitulmaal delivered approximately 4 million meals to those in need around the world this past Ramadan. The charity also provides food, water, healthcare and other humanitarian aid to people in Palestine.
